The Tapeworm diet has been featured again on the Tyra Banks Show, December 29th, and after hearing all about the tapeworm diet and what it does to your body, many are wondering why on earth this would be considered a diet alternative and a way to lose weight.
The Tapeworm diet is just what the name describes, it is a tapeworm that is injested in to your body and it is a guaranteed weight loss method. However, it’s also extremely dangerous.
Importing and selling tapeworms in the United States is completely illegal, however, many who are trying this diet are getting their tapeworms from undercooked beef or raw meat dishes.
What happens when a tapeworm is inside your body?
The tapeworm secretes proteins in your intestinal tract that interrupts the digestion of food, meaning that you can eat more calories as the tapeworm is taking many of those calories for itself. Scientists say that a tapeworm can cause someone to lose one or two pounds a week eating whatever you want.
At the end of your tapeworm experience, you take antibiotics to clear up the worm, but you still have to exit it from your body by going to the bathroom.
Tapeworms are a parasite however, they are not meant to be ingested in to a human body and be able to live there. Some tapeworms, such as a pork tapeworm can be lethal.
Below are some pros and cons.
- Weight loss is pretty much guaranteed
- A scientist in Japan believes that tapeworms can also help clear up allergies like hay fever
- Can be deadly
- Banned by the FDA
- Medical intervention may be needed to get rid of the tapeworm
- There are side effects to having a tapeworm
- Can’t purchase or import one
- Once you get rid of the tapeworm, you risk putting weight back if you continue eating like you have a tapeworm
